Garrett Fisher, Composer and Pianist

"Mr. Fisher has combined elements of opera, dance, Indian raga, Japanese Noh theater and more into fusions that have both a ritualistic intensity and an improvisatory freedom…a strong, unified and strikingly individual utterance of unambiguous beauty."

-The New York Times

Two arias from Garrett Fisher’s opera BLOOD MOON are included in BMP: SONGBOOK — 20 Years of American Opera, a newly published anthology celebrating two decades of work by Beth Morrison Projects. The collection features 75 arias drawn from over 60 operas commissioned and produced by BMP.

NOTES ON NAPKINS at the Morris Museum
Learn from a Composer

A Workshop with Garrett Fisher
Morris Museum (Morristown, NJ)

Sat, April 25 | 1:00 PM

Inspired by the NOTES ON NAPKINS exhibition, composer Garrett Fisher will demonstrate at the piano how he begins a musical idea. Participants will be invited to explore how simple marks, words, or fragments can be brought to life at the piano. This workshop is about the art of beginning: learning how to notice what arises in the moment and capture it simply.

Based on his Blueprints for Solo Piano, Garrett Fisher’s Cathedral Woods transforms the atmosphere of a timeless island forest into a vivid, immersive soundscape where past and present meet. The Seattle Times hails Garrett Fisher’s Blueprints as “The most immersive and beautiful new piano music I’d heard in years...no piano lover should miss it.”
